About the Company

History, production, and achievements of our company

LLC Abris-Optics is a domestic manufacturer of optical components, focused on quality and the advancement of Russian optics. Our company began its journey in the late 1990s. Based on market needs, in 2000 we organized a small enterprise and began receiving orders for the production of optical components.

When designing the production line, only a minimal number of machines were available. On OS-320, 3ShP-320, and 4PD-200 machines we manufactured flat optics and gradually built a customer base. Later, we produced high-quality prisms, lenses, and mirrors.

Thanks to the growing number of orders, we expanded our capacity: new modernized machines and highly qualified personnel appeared, which allowed us to improve product quality, production efficiency, and logistics. Initially, the production area was 200 square meters, and today the company’s working area is 1,200 square meters.

Every year, the volume of components and the complexity of their manufacturing increased, with new types of parts introduced into production.
However, we realized that we were not carrying out the full cycle of all operations, and therefore decided to develop a vacuum coating section. For this purpose, vacuum units VU-1A and VU-2 were acquired, later upgraded with more powerful pumps and spectrovisors.

From that moment, we began to carry out the full cycle of optical component processing – from blanks to vacuum deposition. An auxiliary section is the metalworking shop, where grinding and polishing tools, as well as various fixtures, are manufactured on a KLE-360 CNC lathe.

Our production process starts with design documentation and discussions of technical details with the customer, as well as material selection.
Material procurement is carried out according to the customer’s requirements, with the option (upon request) of providing a technical certificate that confirms compliance of the glass with specific requirements and characteristics, which are especially important for optical applications. It may include information about the composition of the glass, optical properties, tolerances on dimensions and shape, as well as data on the manufacturer and standards used.

We provide the manufacture of optical parts from materials listed in the catalogs: “Colorless Optical Glass” 13659-78, “Colored Optical Glass” 9411-91, “Quartz Optical Glass” 15130-86, covering the entire spectral range from ultraviolet to infrared. We also work with materials from foreign companies such as OXARA and Schott.

In the blank preparation section, glass is cut, dimensions of different configurations and shapes are adjusted, and spheres are applied. Processing is carried out with abrasive grinding materials: diamond and electrocorundum.

In the optical section, fine grinding and polishing of optical components are performed. Polirit is the main polishing abrasive used in the manufacture of glass parts. For bonding blanks to fixtures, the following materials are used: adhesive resin, adhesive paraffin, beeswax, shellac, gypsum, and optical contact.

The working surface of the polishers is either technical woolen fabric (overcoat cloth) or polishing pitch. Materials are evaluated by the intensity of the process – the time during which the polisher retains the shape of the working surface given during its manufacture, and its ability to form a clean, defect-free polished surface.

Grinding with diamond tools, regardless of the type of operation, represents the process of brittle fracture of glass, which occurs due to the scratching action of fixed grains.
Processing with polishing abrasives is the final stage of mechanical processing, resulting in surface irregularities smaller than the wavelength of the visible spectrum.

The need to introduce the centering operation in the lens manufacturing process arose from errors in the positioning of blanks during the machining of refractive surfaces.
The centering operation consists of two sequential steps:

  1. Aligning the optical axis with the spindle rotation axis and fixing this position.
  2. Aligning the geometric axis of the lens with the optical processing path along the diameter.

The accuracy of aligning the geometric axis of the lens with the optical one is determined by several factors, in particular: the values and signs of the radii of the lens surfaces; the mounting method, which determines the alignment accuracy of the optical axis with the spindle rotation axis; the accuracy of the spindle group of the machine; the accuracy of the technological base, which is provided by the centering chuck edge; and the qualification of the worker and setup operator.

Thin-film coatings allow changing optical, mechanical, chemical, electrical, and other properties of optical parts. Currently, more than 98% of optical parts have coatings, which can be divided into optical, electrically conductive, and protective.
We use thermal evaporation and cathode sputtering methods of film-forming materials. The main advantage is the ability to control key technological parameters during the coating process, good reproducibility of results, and high productivity. Coating control is carried out using a reference sample on the UVI SF-56 spectrophotometer.

In our work, we use high-quality equipment and certified instruments, investing in advanced measuring systems. Non-contact technological control of the accuracy of optical polished flat and spherical surfaces and measurement of their radii is performed using the OptoTL-60/120 interferometer. The accuracy of measuring surface radii is 2–10 μm. The measurement error for flat surfaces is λ/20, and for spherical ones – λ/10. Control of angles, wedge, and pyramidal deviations is carried out using GS-5 or GS-2 goniometers and autocollimators. Thorough surface inspection is performed under the MBS-10 microscope.

Today the company has gained a steady pace of development. We constantly pay attention to ideas for the development of various program areas, including the design of our own instruments.

Our Team

Our company employs highly qualified specialists with broad expertise. Students from SP GBPOU Opto-Mechanical Lyceum undergo practical training at our production facilities. We pay great attention to personnel selection and professional development. For example, to fulfill our tasks, we employ design engineers with higher technical education who graduated from departments specializing in optical system design, in areas such as Optical Engineering and Advanced Materials and Technologies, supported by work experience in this field. They develop technical specifications, perform calculations and analysis of optical system parameters, select optimal materials and manufacturing technologies for components, and ensure compliance with technical regulations and quality standards.

Our Values

We strive for continuous development and improvement, as well as automation of production. For our employees, we aim to move away from “factory routine” toward knowledge-intensive production and the manufacture of unique, complex parts, while for our clients we provide comprehensive solutions. Our goal is to deliver customers high-quality products and services of domestic production that meet all requirements and standards. We are proud of our history and achievements, but even more, we value the future and the opportunities it opens for us.

We are located in St. Petersburg and have no branches in other regions. The main founder and sole owner, indicating the concentration of management and ownership in one person, is Viktor Gavrilovich Gusev.
